Jonas was born about 1730, probably in Fagre parish, Skaraborg County, Sweden. The birth record of Jonas has not been found. Skaraborg was located in the strip of land between the two large lakes in southern Sweden. Jonas married Maria Bengtsdotter about 1753, location unknown. The record of their marriage has not been found. They may have been married in an adjoining parish. The couple only had three children. They lived on the farm named Stomman at Fimmerstad and attended the Fagre parish church. Fagre is located about 11 miles southeast of Mariestad, which is on the shore of a large lake named Vanern. The Fagre parish church was built of stone somewhere around the year 1200. During the night of May 7, 1749, the church was struck by lightning and the roof was completely destroyed. The parsonage was also burned to the ground. The damage was probably repaired very quickly. Jonas died of pneumonia on May 6, 1769. He was only 36 at the time.

Note: Skaraborg was combined with some other small counties to form Vastra Gotaland County in 1998.
