RETIRED WATERMAN SUCCUMBED TUESDAY

John Henry Landon Died At Home In Lawsonia

FUNERAL SERVICES TO BE HELD TODAY

John Henry Landon, retired waterman and
esteemed citizen of the Lawsonia
neighborhood, passed away at his home in
that suburban community at approximately
9:45 o'clock on Tuesday evening of this
week. He was eighty-two years old.

Born in this section, where he spent virtually,
his entire life, on April 14, 1858, he was the
son of the late John H. Landon and Mima
Daugherty Landon, pioneer residents of
Somerset County, actively identified with its
early growth and development.

Before he was overtaken by ill health and
advanced age several years ago Mr. Landon
was an active waterman an occupation with
which he was actively identified for many,
many years. As with most men who have
spent their days following the water, he
loved the feel of a sturdy boat beneath his
feet and the salty tang of the water from
which he was able to wrest a fair living.

Mr. Landon was a man of exempliary
character, known and loved by an ever
widening circle of friends, whose hearts go
out to the bereaved family in their hour of
sorrow. Besides his widow. Mrs. Mary E.
Landon, he is survived by two daughters,
Mrs. William Ward and Mrs. John Daugherty,
both of this city, and seven sons, Sidney 0.
Landon, J. Lorenzo Landon. Sr., William
Carroll Landon, Harrison Landon, Reginald
Landon and Henry Landon, all of Crisfield,
and Dewey Landon, of Bethlehem, Pa. and
twenty-six grandchildren and seven great
grandchildren. Two half-sisters, Mrs. Ella
Betts, of Hampton, Va. and Mrs. Lucy
Lawson of Lawsonia, and two half-brother,
Sidney Landon and Robert Landon both of
this city, also survive.

Funeral services are to be held at his late
home in Lawsonia at 2:30 o'clock. this
afternoon.

Interment will be in the Crisfield Cemetery.
