Arlene Parker Hurst, age 77, beloved wife and mother, died surrounded by her loving family on June 5, 2002 of sudden heart failure.

Arlene was born July 14, 1924, in Burley, Idaho to Charles G. and Della Fowers Parker. She married her high school sweetheart, Wendell Hurst, on Nov. 18, 1942, in the Salt Lake Temple.

She lived a life of service and devotion to her family and church. She had an abiding love for the Savior and an unwavering testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints, she served faithfully in every auxiliary organization, and taught Spiritual Living in Relief Society for more than 17 years.

She excelled in teaching, homemaking, sewing, needlepoint, gardening, baking, and genealogical research. She loved good books and spent hours reading. She traveled with her husband throughout the world, but found no greater joy than spending time at their summer home in Island Park, Idaho.

Survived by husband of 60 years, L. Wendell Hurst; children, Dianne (Dale) Huber, Vicki (Robert) Liljenquist, Carey Brent Hurst, Mark (Jill) Hurst, Reed (Jolene) Hurst, Lynn (Jerrie) Hurst; 20 adoring grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brothers, Claude Parker, Gordon (Kathy) Parker; sister, Margaret (Richard) Dalton; and many nieces and nephews.

Although she never served in the military, she was affectionately known by her children as "Sarge," but there was no title she loved more than "mother." She was loved and revered by all that had the privilege of knowing this gracious lady and will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 8, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Holladay 4th Ward, 4917 South Viewmont, Holladay, Utah. Friends and family may call Friday, June 7, 2002, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street and Saturday at the church 10:00 to 10:45 a.m.

Family suggests donations be made to LDS Church Perpetual Education Fund, 50 East North Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84150.
