Glenn was the middle child of Sophia Rougastt Doering and Christopher C. "C.C." Doering. C.C. owned livery stables and was the owner of the first big Caterpillar tractor at their place of residence in Washington State. Glenn's older brother was Paul H. Doering, and his younger sister was Bertha Doering (Mrs. Art Armstrong) of Kennewick, WA.

Married to the redheaded seventh child of eight children, Hazel Annie Cooper Doering, on April 2, 1935, Walla Walla, Walla Walla County, WA. Hazel died on the operating table in Spokane, WA, undergoing her second heart surgery.

With their son, Bob, they were "Page Pioneers" -- helping to birth "America's Last Frontier" -- Page, Arizona. Glenn worked for Merritt-Chapman & Scott, operating their "Monkey Slide". Some people in Page called the Glen Canyon Dam workers "Dirt Stiffs".
