On June 1, 1903 he received his Homestead for the land on which he was born and on which his father settled. He continued his father's trade of making shingles. He sold them in Pensacola.
1. William Nathey (father of William Jonathan Nathey) built the Nathey Gristmill in 1857. The original gristmill stones and documentation for the Mill is at the Heritage Museum in Valparaiso located on the west side of Boggy Bayou. Today, Niceville is on the east side of Boggy Bayou, but before Valparaiso was established, the area on both sides of Boggy Bayou was known as Niceville and was a thriving timber industry and fishing community.
