The John Gebhard family farmed the Conrad Gebhard homestead on Honey- moon Hill Road, Charlestown.

HAYTON – Much sorrow was expressed by the people of the vicinity of Charlestown when the news gained currency that John Gebhard, one of our highly respected citizens, had passed away Wednesday morning at 3 o’clock.

Mr. Gebhard was in good health until a week before his death, when he complained about a severe cold, which developed into pneumonia, and was followed on Sunday evening by a paralytic stroke. He received all the care the family could possibly give him and in addition a trained nurse from Milwaukee was in attendance, in an effort to save his life, but all was in vain.

The deceased was born in the town of Charlestown, November 13, 1861 and was married to Margaret Pfister June 2, 1891.

He is survived by his widow Margaret, Sr. Raphael of Milwaukee, Jerome of New Holstein, Mrs. C. Manetz of Milwaukee, Mrs. Louis Knier of St. Nazianz, Nic., Louisa, Alex, Coletta, Angela and Norman at home, two sisters, Mrs. John Maier of Thorp and Miss Katie Gebhard of Manitowoc, and one brother, George Gebhard of Hayton.

He was a faithful member of the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin. The different societies of St. Nazianz, Charlesburg, Chilton and New Holstein were all numerously present at the funeral, which took place on Saturday morning and showed their last respects for their deceased brother. It was one of the largest funerals was held at Charlestown. Rev. Goerlich officiated. Mr. Gebhard was a faithful husband and father to his family and surely will be missed by them and by his numerous friends.
