William Harrison Roland, 74, of 143 Textile Drive, Ridgeway, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.

He was born on July 17, 1928, in Martinsville to David H. Roland and Ethel Merriman Roland, who are deceased. He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Nannie Frances Roland and Doris Gauldin Young.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and was self-employed in trucking.

Surviving are his wife, Maria K. Roland of Ridgeway; a daughter, Jayne Roland Bryant of Martinsville; two sons, William David Roland and Richard Bauer Roland, both of Ridgeway; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Norris Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Marshall McCrickard officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7-8:30 p.m., and at other times at the home in Ridgeway.
