Dr. Louise Thornton Hollowell led an exciting life that has included working as an entrepreneur, professor, and author. She exemplifies the importance of education by having earned the honor of Magna Cum Laude from Morris Brown College, where she received a bachelor's of arts degree in English, a master's degree in English from Atlanta University, a doctoral degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and an honorary doctorate from Morris Brown College. Using her teaching profession, along with other affiliations, she supported the Civil Rights Movement alongside her husband the late Donald L. Hollowell, who was known as Georgia's foremost Civil Rights attorney during the 1950's and 1960's.

Dr. Louise Thornton Hollowell is a member of Big Bethel African Methodist Church. She is an esteemed member of 60 years + of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., as well as a life time member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
