Edgar Van Nuys Allen was a native of Cozad, Nebraska. He is remembered for his work as a Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Edgar Allen was a specialist in cardiovascular medicine. He is particularly known for his research of peripheral vascular disease. His name is lent to the eponymous Allen test, which is a procedure to determine blood supply to the hand. He also did extensive research and development of dicumerol, an anti-coagulant that is produced from coumarin.

During World War II he served as a Colonel in the United States Army Medical Corps.

Allen, 61, member of the Mayo Clinic staff since 1930 and former president of the American Heart Association, died Wednesday of pneumonia. Allen, who was internationally known for studies of diseases of the heart and blood vessels, was born in Cozad, Neb."
