CIVIL WAR VETERAN: Served in Company K, 15th Regiment, Maine Volunteers. He enlisted and was mustered in, Belfast, Maine on 10 Mar 1865; mustered out at New York City 16 Nov 1865. Was and remained a private during his service.

At the time of his enlistment he was described as a single man, 18 years of age, occupation listed as Seaman. His enlistment was as a substitute for Stockton sea Capt. Harrison Steel.

If searching for Private Barrett at the National Archives, they have his name twice, once with only one "T" in Barrett, the other as Riley Bennett. Both names appear on his pension card.

Beside marker is GAR 1861-1865 stand. "Co K, 15th Reg. ME. Vol." His stone says he died at 55 years and..."Tho' lost to sight, to memory dear"
