Steve Karpovich, 86, of Cass City, died Tuesday, January 14, 2003 in Tuscola County Medical Care Facility, Caro. He was born July 4, 1916 in Hamtramck, to Roman and Mary (Smulka) Karpovich. He married Katheryn Lutomski August 3, 1939 in Caro. She died June 4, 1977.

Steve was a lifelong farmer. Steve was the second man hired at General Cable and worked there until his retirement in 1978. He served as President of his Union Local for eight years. Steve was a member of St. Agatha Catholic Church and was active with the parish picnic. He was a member of the Tuscola County Polish American Club. He was an avid gardener, loved animals and small children. He always helped the neighbors and enjoyed his cottage up north. Steve traveled to Poland and Switzerland.

Steve is survived by his children: Edna (Gordon) Kujawski of Cass City; Stephen C. (Faye) Karpovich of Caro; grandson, David (Tonya) Karpovich of Gagetown; great grandson, Charles; step grandsons: Kevin Kujawski of Livonia, Gregory (Justine) Kujawski of Arizona, Matthew (Shea) Kujawski of Arizona, David Kujawski of Redford; step great grandchildren: Kristofer, Gary, Tiffany, Matthew Jr., Derrick, Joseph; brothers: John (Marianne) Karpovich of Caro, Thomas (Anita) Karpovich of Brown City; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Anna Benson and brother, Wesley.
Funeral services held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 18, 2003 at St. Agatha Catholic Church, Gagetown with Rev. Steve Fillion officiating. Interment is in St. Agatha Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Tuscola County Medical Care Facility or St. Agatha Catholic Church.

Visitation: 2 to 9 p.m., Friday
Vigil Service 7:30 p.m. Friday
