BERT STENSLAND

Funeral services for Bert Stensland, 68 years were held Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 13 in the Bethel Lutheran Church, Story City, with pastor Donald L. Berg officiating. The hymns, "Beautiful Savior," "On Radiant Morn the Mists will all Surrender" and "Jesus Savior, Pilot Me" were sung by the congregation with Mrs. Thelma Smuck as organist. Burial was in the Story City Municipal Cemetery.

Pall bearers were his neighbors: Melbourne Henderson, John Michaelson, Gaylord Henryson, Henry Oakland, Herman Wicks and Robert Ness.

Bert Olar Stensland, son of Oney and Malena Stensland was born June 24, 1905 on a farm southwest of Jewell. He was baptized and confirmed by St. Paul Lutheran Church near Stanhope. He started farming in 1927. On June 24, 1929 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Egesal* of Buffalo Center, at the church in Elmore, Minn. They opened their home to several needy children, and adopted a boy in 1942. That same spring they purchased an acreage northeast of Story City and have continued to live there until his death.

In 1943 Mr. Stensland joined his brother-in-law in the carpentry business which he continued for 25 years, until he was forced to quit this trade having suffered several heart attacks.

He passed away very suddenly at his home early Sunday morning, November 11.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; also his son and daughter-in-law, Carroll and Marilyn Stensland of Lakeland, Minn.; six grandchildren, one great-grandson; two brothers: Elmer of Paramount, Calif., and Abel of Rake; five sisters: Mrs. Luther (Mabel) Egemo, Mrs. Thelmer (Judith) Ford, Mrs. Lewis (Agnes) Matson and Mrs. Franklin (Selma) Lee all of Story City and Mrs. Reuben (JoElla) Anderson of Ames. He was prededed in death by his parents.
