Born in Middletown, VA, August 19, 1882, the son of Rev. George W. Ogden and Virginia Smith Ogden, he operated a general store and was postmaster in Prosperity, WV;and was president of the bank and general manager of Oak Hill Telephone Co. in Pax, WV, before moving to Altavista, VA in 1919. He was vice president of Farmers' and Merchants' Bank, a farmer, and post office employee, living on Route 714 (Ogden Road) until moving to 909 Bedford Ave. in 1938. He was married to Bertie Mae Edmonds for 50 years. He was a member of the Altavista Presbyterian Church and Knights of Phythias. He and his wife had five children:
Twins: Doval George and Dallas Joel; Samuel Darwin; and twins: Berta Frances and William W. Ogden Jr.
