.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.;.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:Lavina Dobson's parents, William Richards and Mary A. Bowman, were married in Medina County, Ohio on July 9, 1840. Lavina was born "Sylvina Richards" on June 22, 1845, in Medina County--although her monument has 1848, for the year that she was born.

Sylvina Richard married William Dobson, after the Civil War. Her father, William H. Richards, was a stepbrother to William Dobson's mother, Elizabeth Lance Dobson Miller, whose widowed father (Abram Lance, Sr) had married in 1832, William H. Richard's mother, Mary McCormick Richards, also widowed.

She was named after her maternal grandmother. Lavina's father, William H. Richards was born in Ohio about 1815 and William's father was born in Maryland and his mother was born in Pennsylvania. Lavina's mother, Mary Bowman, was born about 1826, in Ohio and Mary's father was born in Germany and her mother was born in Pennsylvania: Christopher Bowman (memorial# 11306826) and Salvina Schafer Bowman (memorial# 11306828). Lavina's parents were married in Medina County, Ohio, on July 9, 1840. On their July 2, 1840 Marriage License, signed by William (Ritchards), William is above 21 and Mary is above 14 years of age, with her father's permission to marry.

Sylvina Richards married first, a widower, Simon Edmunds on October 31, 1863, in Sandusky, Ohio. (I believe that Sylvina was born in 1845 because In Ohio at that time to be married, the wife had to be at least 18 years old and the husband had to be at least 21 years of age. For this marriage, if she had been born in 1848, she would have been 15 years old--although, her mother, Mary Bowman, was 14 years old when she got married to William Richards.) During the Civil War Corporal Simon Edmonds of Co. K, 144th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, died in Maryland of disease on October 23, 1864, sometime after being paroled from a POW camp. Corporal Edwards is buried at the Annapolis National Cemetery in Maryland.

On October 4, 1866, the widow "Sylvina Edmands" married William Dobson. During William Dobson's enlistment, he was in the same Company B of General James A. Garfield's Regiment, the 42nd Regiment of the Ohio Volunteer Infantry (OVI), in Company B. at the same time, as Jasper Newton Richards, the brother of his future wife, Mrs. Sylvina Richards Edmonds, whom William later wed, after the war, on October 4, 1866 in Medina County. Jasper N. Richards died on Feb. 16, 1863 at Young's Point, Louisiana, during the Civil War. Jasper enlisted on August 20, 1862 at the age of 19 years. Sylvina's oldest brother William H. Richards was also in that same Company B and he died at Ashland, Kentucky on February 28, 1862.

William had enlisted on September 22, 1861, at the age of 20 years.

Lavina also had four younger brothers, besides her older brothers,William and Jasper: George W. Richards Wayland Richards (b.~1854, d.before 1870?)Wesley J. Richards John Richards.

She also had two younger sisters: Martha J. Richards Greenhoe Susan A. Richards Neff.

Lavina and William Dobson had 3 sons: Leon, Milton, and Hiley. On Milton's birth record, the "maiden" name given for his mother was Sylvina Edmonds. Tragically, the two oldest sons, Leon and Milton, both died of Diphtheria in 1873, at the ages of 14 and 11 years. Her husband, William Dobson died at home, on August 12, 1922. Lavina Dobson died on July 31, 1925, also at their farm on Fenn Road, in York Township,Medina,Ohio..:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.;.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.
