Died at the home of his son, Judge A.L. Miller.

His grandfather was George Miller, of England, who fought in the Revolutionary War. His father was Capt. John Miller, who fought in the War of 1812. Capt. Miller married Miss Meyer and their son was born on Blueberry Hill, that from three miles away looks down on Augusta.

He married first, Amanda Lawton on May 20,1837, daughter of Alexander J. Lawton, of Black Swamp, Beaufort Co. and sister of Gen. A.R. Lawton of Savannah. She lived only one year but relations were so great between the families that he named is second son Alexander Lawton, for Gen. A.R. Lawton.

He married second to Margaret Smith on May 14, 1842 in Richmond Co. Ga. There were born to this union twelve children, eight sons and four daughters. Ten of these grew to manhood and womanhood. They were Capt. William Wallace Miller, Catherine, wife of James L. Robertson, Dr. John Meyer Miller, who died in early manhood, Judge A.L. Miller, Anselm Irving Miller, deceased, Elizabeth Moore, deceased, Dr. George Twiggs Miller, Emily J. Habersham, Annie Righton Miller wife of Hon. Pope Brown, Norman P. Miller, Frederick Robertson Miller, and Louis Walton Miller, deceased.
