George fought for both the South and the North in the Civil War. West Tennessee was clearly for the South but the mountain people in East Tennessee had divided loyalties. George first fought for the South in company C of the 61st Tennessee and later for the North in company A of the 8th Tennessee.
Wife Sereney died in 1872 and George wed Hannah E. Martin in Greene County on April 26, 1874. They had:
1) Talitha B in 1877
2) Mary E in Mar 1881
George died on July 19, 1902, and on August 8, 1902, Hannah applied for a widows pension for his service to the North. (Wid 768094).
