Thomas K. Scheller died at his North Point home after an illness of several months. He was 72 years and 15 days. Born in Mercersburg on Oct. 17, 1838, he resided there until 1956 when he came to Chambersburg and took up the study of pharmacy with the late A.J. Miller. In 1861, he was graduated from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy after which he went to Washington, D.C., where he was employed in the drug store of D.B. Clark. After a short time, he became a partner in the business. The partnership continued until 1876 when he became associated with Edward Stevens and the new firm conducted a pharmacy at the National Hotel and another at Ninth and Pennsylvania Avenues, the latter being the leading pharmacy in Washington.
In 1897, Mr. Scheller sold out his interests in Washington and returned to Mercersburg and a year later came to Chambersburg where he opened the drug store at North Point which he conducted until his death.
Mr. Scheller took a lively interest in sports and while in Washington was interested in the baseball club of that city.
He was a good citizen and served a term in the borough council. He did much to advance the interests of Chambersburg and look ed well after the needs of his constituents.
On Oct. 26, 1862, he married Helen M. Nitterhouse, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George W. Nitterhouse. To this union were born two children, Thomas K. Scheller, Jr, the well known attorney and baseball player, and Miss Helen M. Scheller, both at home, with his widow who survive him.
