Richard Ishler, MD, 94, of State College, died September 17, 2004 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born August 31, 1910 in Boalsburg, he was the son of the late Harry H. and Valerie L. Gettig Ishler. He married Mary Jane Dulak in 1940, who survives at home. He graduated from State College High School in 1928, Pennsylvania State University in 1932, Jefferson Medical College in 1936. He served a two-year internship and medical residency at Abington Memorial Hospital, Abington, Pa. He practiced general medicine from 1938 to 1997 in State College. He was a 50-year member of the Alpha Fire Company, a life member of the State College Masonic Lodge No. 700, a life member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Williamsport, and a life member of the Jaffa Temple, Altoona, and a member of the Elks BPOE No. 1600, and served on the State College Board of Health for 25 years and chairman for two years, and a member of the Centre Hills Country Club, and served on the board of directors for Peoples National Bank for many years. Dr. Ishler was a member of the Faith United Church of Christ. In addition to his wife Mary Jane, he is survived by a son, H. Richard Ishler Jr., and his wife Virginia, of Mount Airy, Md., and a daughter Barbara Louise Ishler Janowsky, and her husband William of Acton, Mass., and three grandsons Michael Ishler, David Janowsky and Theodore R. Janowsky. His two brothers, Kenneth H. Ishler and Harold L. Ishler, MD, predeceased him. Memorial service will follow, Rev. Jack Kline officiating. Burial at Centre County Memorial Park.
