Died in her sleep on June 24 at age 87. Jackie was loved dearly by her late husband, Hugh Raymond (Hippo) Willis-O'Connor, who she met at age 13. She will be deeply missed by her three children, Michael (Knarik) of Kingston, Maggie (Steven) of Maui, and Catherine (Twink) of Ottawa and her five grandchildren, Maggie T, Mark, Arminé, Christina and Sariné and granddog Cody.
She was the daughter of Air Marshall William Avery (Billy) Bishop, V. C., C.B., D.S.O. and Bar, M. C., D.F. C. and Margaret Eaton Burden and great- granddaughter of Timothy and Margaret Eaton of Toronto. Born in London, England in 1926, her godmother was Princess Marie Louise, cousin of Queen Mary and her godfather was Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught, son of the Late Queen Victoria. After the crash of 1929 her dad, Billy Bishop, moved the family back to Canada where they resided in Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa. Jackie studied at Havergal, The Study, Elmwood, Lisgar Collegiate Institute and attended McGill University. In spite of receiving a scholarship in Mathematics to Queen's University, she enlisted in the R. C.A.F. on her 18th birthday. At Radio College, she trained in Morse code and was awarded her Wireless Sparks by her father, Billy Bishop.
Sharp as a whip, a no-nonsense girl, Jackie was one hot number. She was the life of the party. In a telegram to her boyfriend, Hippo, she stated ''DROP THE BLOND; I'M COMING IN AT 6:00''. Needless to say, he dropped the blond, and they were married for 65 years. With her outgoing creative energy, she founded the May Court Club of Montreal, and organized numerous galas, fundraising cocktail parties, and volunteer decorating committees for the Children's Mountain Cottage Convalescent Hospital, C.N.I.B. of Montreal, Montreal General Hospital, S.P. C.A. of Montreal, and the May Court Club of Ottawa. Jackie had many talents, including interior design, mural painting and needlework. She was known to have sewn her ball gowns, which sometimes matched the curtains she had sewn or a couch she had upholstered and would purposely wear the gown that matched her hostess' décor. Cocktail hour was never missed. Humour was served daily. One evening Chester the beagle invited himself in, so they dressed him up in Twink's shorts and t-shirt and sent him home with a note saying, ''I've had too many martinis. Send me to bed with an aspirin''.
On Thursday, June 27 at Beechwood Cemetery, Jackie was buried beside her beloved Hippo. Coincidentally on the same day in Owen Sound, her brother Arthur Bishop, WWII Spitfire pilot, was buried beside their father, Billy Bishop.
