First Milwaukee traffic and first mounted policeman. He served 35 years with City's police department retiring October 1, 1923.

A native of Germany he came to this country as a boy. He joined the police department May 7, 1887 as a patrolman and 5 years later became a traffic policeman. He became the city's first mounted policeman May 8, 1893 later returning to foot patrol.

Survived by wife Elizabeth, 2 sons Ray, a deputy sheriff and Vincent; 1 brother Michael, 2 sisters Mrs Theresa Wess and Mrs Anna Fischer.
