William "Bill" Bailey, age 87, a McLeansboro resident, passed away at 5:22 p.m. Tuesday at his home.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served as a Gunner's Mate 2nd Class from September 20, 1943 to March 15, 1946. He served aboard the U.S.S. Whippett in the Asia Pacific Campaign during World War II.
Bill's career included law enforcement and farming. On October 28, 1957, he joined the ranks of the Illinois State Police, serving as a trooper in Districts 12, 13 and 19. He retired from District 19 (Carmi) on November 30, 1980, with 23 years of service.
Visitation: Friday, July 5 at the Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Services: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 6.
Burial: Mt. Olivet Church Cemetery at McLeansboro with military honors provided by the Illinois State Police, American Legion Post 106 and a Military Honor Team from Marion.
