Joey Thornton, 46, of Florence, Ala., passed away Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010.
Joey was a proud member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity since 1984, a member and judge with KCBS "BARBEQUE," a lifelong member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, a graduate of St. Joseph Catholic School and Coffee High School. He received his B.S. Degree from the University of North Alabama. Joey was a very loving son, brother, husband, father and Paw Paw. He loved his job at Delta Com. and his work with his best friend, Daniel Robertson, for many years. He enjoyed life and never missed a minute to appreciate it. He loved to make his wife happy; he gave me so much love that will last forever… Susan.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Edward Markley, O.S.B., at 11 a.m. Monday, March 1, 2010, at St. Michael's Catholic Church. He will be eulogized by his cousin, Army Chaplin David Thornton. The burial will be scheduled at a later date.
Joey is survived by his best friend forever and wife, Susan Thornton; parents, Tom and Ruth Thornton; brothers, to whom he was very close, Tim Thornton and wife, Marsha, Shannon Thornton and wife, Renee; daughter, Kristen; paw paw's little grandson, Tanner "TT": nieces, Taylor and Anna Ruth Thornton; nephews, Kyler and Case; devoted mother-in-law, Jewel McLaughlin; his favorite pet dog, Bud; and other extended family.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Memorial donations may be made to the Cerebral Palsy Center at 507 N. Hook Street, Tuscumbia, AL 35674.
