We Remember and Honor Beverly Hills Police Officer Edmund W. Gardell, End of Watch (EOW) July 21, 1939, Motorcycle Accident
On July 11, 1939, Beverly Hills Motorcycle Officer Edmund W. Gardell was in pursuit of a speeding motorist on Wilshire Boulevard when his motorcycle sideswiped a car. The impact of this collision forced him into oncoming traffic where he collided with an approaching vehicle. Officer Gardell was taken to California Lutheran Hospital where he died from his injuries ten days later.
Gardell, 31, served with the Beverly Hills Police Department for nearly five years and lived in the city. He was buried at the Sunset View Cemetery in El Cerrito.
