Nicholas Durr was a Captain in the War of 1812 and was serving on May 20, 1813 when Jacob Derr was born and his wife died. The Archives of Pennsylvania say Nicholas Derr was Captain of the 101st Regular Pennsylvania Militia on September 23, 1814 (Genealogy and History of the Family of Jacob and Rachel Beck Derr, 1996 and Preceding Years).

He lived in Lynn Township, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. His father, was probably the Johannes Durr who arrived in America aboard the ship Hero from Rotterdam on 10-27-1764.
