H.B. "Bud" Otto, 67, has lost his courageous battle against lung cancer on Nov. 24, 2001. Diagnosed with the disease in 2000, he continued his passion for playing golf with his cronies at Buenaventura and River Ridge, where he served on the board of directors. Born Oct. 26, 1934, in Hollywood to famed restaurateur "Bud" Otto, he spent his early years hanging around movie studios watching craftsmen making magic. Enamored by this, he graduated from USC in 1957 with a degree in cinema and set out to make his mark. He began by delivering the studio mail at Four Star Television. There he learned from the best. He became a script supervisor in 1960 and worked on many television shows at Four Star. Moving on to movies in the '60s, Otto worked on many films and movies of the week. He was particularly proud of "Sybil" with Sally Field. He reunited with her on "Norma Rae," for which she won an Oscar. Amongst his credits were "Jeremiah Johnson," "The Omen," "10," "S.O.B." and "War Games." His last assignment was on the successful "Jag." He retired in 1997. Otto was a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He served on the board of directors at Rancho Adolfo Estates, his last residence. While golf was his passion, he enjoyed reading and watching movies. Always ready with a quick quip, he will be missed by his playing partners, who had to put up with his endless banter. Otto leaves a daughter, Lisa, who resides in Chicago, Ill.; and a brother in Los Angeles. Private services will be held. Donations in his name can be made to the American Cancer Society and Assisted Home Hospice, Ventura.
