Chester Alan "Chet" DeYoung was born Oct. 15, 1942, in Grand Rapids, Mich., to Edwin R. and Ruth E. (Perkins) DeYoung.

Chet passed away July 1, 2013, at his home in Butte, due to complications of Reynaud's disease that had progressed to scleroderma.

Chet grew up in Livingston, graduated from Park High School followed by a tour of duty with the Army 5th Infantry Division in the Vietnam War during 1969-1970. Chet graduated from Montana State University (MSU) in Bozeman with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Arts in June of 1973. Chet enjoyed life to the fullest.

Chet was married in Livingston in 1969, and the family was blessed with two children, one daughter, and one son. Chet had purchased the Snavely Transfer and Storage from his Uncle Dale Snavely and operated DeYoung Transfer and Storage in Livingston for many years. Chet and his wife also owned and operated both the Rainbow Bar on Park Street and the Stockman Bar on Main Street in Livingston. Chet and his wife later divorced.

Chet was an avid pool player and had organized many pool leagues in Livingston, Butte and Anaconda and was known for organizing and running pool leagues and tournaments. He loved playing pool and was very proud of his many plaques and trophies that are a result of his passion for the sport. He also enjoyed the demolition derby that was held during the 4th of July activities in Livingston.

After selling his business in Livingston he moved to Butte. Chet worked and recently retired from Sutey Oil after 10 years of dedicated service.

In addition to playing pool, Chet enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing and lived life to the fullest.

Chet was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin R and Ruth E DeYoung; nieces, Brenda Blome and Wendy Vink; in addition to several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Chet is survived by his two children he loved most in life; two brothers; three sisters; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends from Livingston, Butte and outlying areas.

Per Chet's request, there are no services planned at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
