Mary M. Dennis, 99, a lifelong resident of State College, died Sunday, January 16, 2005 at Centre Crest in Bellefonte. Born on June 8, 1905 in State College, she was the daughter of the late Harry Clyde and Julia Womer Gill. She married William Varney Dennis Jr. who passed away on August 11, 1981. She was a telephone operator at Penn State for 25 years and retired in 1970. Previously she was employed with the Bell Telephone Co. and was on duty when State College changed from an operator assisted to a dial tone system. She was affiliated with St. Paul's United Methodist Church, and was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Club in State College. She is survived by a son William Harry Dennis of Philadelphia, a sister, Gertrude Gearhart of Milesburg, two brothers; Philbert and Harry Gill both of State College; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter Wilmar Gail Dennis. Funeral service Wednesday at Koch Funeral Home, State College, Reverend Thomas H. Jacobs officiating. Burial in Pine Hall Cemetery.
