John A. Fleer, 96, Washington, passed away Monday, October 13, 1997, at Cedarcrest Manor nursing home, Washington. Mr. Fleer, the son of the late Fred W. Fleer and wife Minnie, nee Meyer, was born January 4, 1901, in Gerald. He was baptized and confirmed ar Ebenezer Stone Church, Gerald. On October 17, 1926, he was united in marriage to Amanda Bueker at the bride’s home. They made their home north of Gerald on a farm until 1951. They moved to Washington where Mr. Fleer did carpentry. They resided here until his death. Mr. Fleer was a member of the Ebenezer Stone Church and St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Washington, where he was active in many organizations. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Amanda; one brother, Dan Fleer; three sisters, Amanda Bauche, Olga Fleer and twin sister, Christina Bauche; and one great-grandson ,Matthew Fleer. Mr. Fleer is survived by one son, Elmer Fleer and wife Eleanor, Washington; one daughter, Nelda Wesselschmidt and husband Milfred, St. Louis; four grandchildren, David Fleer and wife Sandra, Daryl Fleer and wife Jane, both of Washington, Janet Wertzberger and husband John, Columbia; and Gary Wesselschmidt and wife Terry, Bridgeton; eight greatgrandchildren, Scott, Kate, Bryan, and Kim Wertzberger and Matthew Wesselschmidt;
other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held Thursday, October 16, at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Washington, with Pastor William H. Schwab officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Fleer family was served by Miller Funeral Home, Washington.
