She was born Nov. 4, 1938, at St. Louis, the daughter of Robert Carlton and wife Gertrude, nee Usselmann.
On Dec. 4, 1965, she was united in marriage to Terry T. Bartels.
The couple lived in St. Louis County and later moved to Washington in 1971.
Mrs. Bartels graduated from Forest Park Community College with an associate's degree in dental hygiene.
She worked for a number of years as a dental hygienist for Dr. Mark Scantlan in Sullivan and in Washington for Dr.
William Huber and Dr. Monika Strong.
Mrs. Bartels was preceded in death by her mother, Gertrude Carlton.
She is survived by her husband Terry T. Bartels, Washington; one son, Terry C. Bartels, New Haven; three daughters, Kristine Dillingham and husband Tracy, Colorado, Karen Schneider, Fulton, and Kimberly Flanagan, St. Louis County;her father, Robert Carlton, St. Louis County; one sister, Deborah Carlton, Kansas City; one brother, Robert Carlton, St.Louis County; two grandchildren, David Schneider and Eric Flanagan; one great-granddaughter, Chelsy; other relatives and many friends.
A funeral Mass was held Tuesday, Dec. 3, at St. Francis Borgia Church, Washington, with Fr. Jack Costello officiating.
Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Memorials to National Ovarian Cancer Coalition are preferred.
