Mary was born the daughter of Henry and Arminta (Williams) Lillie. She married John Boughman on March 1, 1857. They moved to Wisconsin and at first lived in Waukesha County, but then moved to Rock County in Wisconsin. John and Mary had 4 children: 3 girls and a boy. A month before Mary died, their oldest daughter, also named Mary, died at the age of 6 years. Then, 2 weeks after Mrs. Boughman died, their 2 other daughters Abbie and Lillie, passed away. Mr. Boughman lived another four years. Their son Harry, who was 8 months old when his mother died, died in Ohio at the age of 6 in 1870.
