Mr. Joseph Almon Beckett was born in Peterborough County, Ontario, Canada on January 4, 1854 to James and Nancy [McIntosh] Beckett. The Beckett family emigrated to the United States in 1869 and Joseph grew up in Saginaw, Michigan. In 1879, Joseph farmed for ten years in Marshall County, Kansas.

In 1889, Joseph moved to Klickitat County where he met and married his wife, the Mrs. Adelaide Goddard on August 13, 1893. She was the daughter of Mary [Goddard] and Orville Sturgis. He worked at the planing mill Beckett & Pierce of which his brother was a co-owner. In 1901, Joseph bought the planing business and ran the mill and yard.

Joseph passed away in Goldendale on May 28, 1923.

(Joseph's wife Adelaide married Howard Marshall in 1925, and died in 1948; however, she was buried under the name of Adelaide Beckett next to Joseph.)
