Jay E. Moore, 87 dies on Wednesday
Jay Earl Moore, 87, of 421 E. 2nd, Washington, died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 1977, at Washington Care Center. He had been ill for one year.
Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Sherman-Eden Funeral Home with Dr. W. J. Stevens of the Church of the Living Word officiating. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery, Wellman.
Mr. Moore was born Feb. 5, 1891, at Knox, North Dakota, the son of Andrew W. and Harriet Hall Moore. He was reared and educated at Green Valley and Keswick. In 1914 he married Carrie G. Bell at Wellman. She died July 5, 1946.
He had lived most of his life in Washington and was a construction carpenter. he was employed by the U.S. Navy at Pearl Harbor when it was invaded by the Japanese.
Survivors include the following children: Murray L. Moore of Ottumwa; Mrs. Kenneth (Opal) Goodwin; Earl Moore of West Liberty: Harold Moore of Washington; Lyle Moore of Davenport and Mrs. Robert (Alice) Ayers of North English; a brother, Tom T. Moore of Grinnell; 27 grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
