Mrs. Jessie Selph McDaniel, 81, of Glenwood, surrounded by her family, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 20, 2007 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. She was a native of Dodge County and as a child moved to Glenwood in the 1930s Eventually she became the owner and operator of Selph Cleaners in Glenwood which was a family-owned business that started in 1936 and then retired in 1990. Additionally, she was an accomplished seamstress, making and altering clothing for the people in Wheeler and the surrounding counties and continued to do so, until shortly before her death. Family and friends were always welcomed at "Jessie House Georgia" with a hug, a warm smile and a kitchen full of awesomely delicious food. She was a dedicated charter and and the oldest member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Glenwood.

Mrs. McDaniel is survived by one son: John Jerry McDaniel of Woodbine; three daughters: Judy (Keith) Tipton of Kibbee; Debra (Kendall) Brantley of Lyons and Cara (Sam) Henry of Glenwood; one sister: June Selph (Arnold) Adams of Dublin; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Jessie Selph McDaniel were held Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at 2 p.m. in the Friendship Baptist Church in Glenwood with the Rev. C.B. Easterlin and Reverend Robert Rosier officiating with family comments by son-in-law Dr. Keith Tipton. Interment followed in Edge Memorial Cemetery in Glenwood.

Pallbearers were: Eddie Harvill, Donnie Brown, Danny Clark, Glen Horne, T.J. Mercer and Ernest Clark.

Honorary Pallbearers were: Mack Oswalt, Tommy Tipton, L.W. Kent, G.M. Joiner, Sandy Morrison, Billy Cheek, Mike Dixon and Gary Usher.

Murchison Funeral Home of Vidalia was in charge of arrangements.
