Indian Mutiny Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in London, England, he served as a Lieutenant in the 60th Rifles, British Army. Throughout the Siege at Delhi, India, June to September, 1857, Lieutenant Heathcote placed himself in extreme danger. Despite being wounded, he volunteered his services especially during the six days of severe of fighting in the streets after the Assault. For extreme gallantry, he was awarded the Victoria Cross on January 20, 1860 and achieved the rank of Colonel. He died at age 79 in Bowral, Australia.
