United States Military Officer. Attending the Military Academy at West Point, George Pillsbury graduated 1st in his class in 1900. He would return to West Point in 1908 to serve as an Associate Professor of Mathematics until 1912. Assigned to the Army Corps of Engineers, Pillsbury would publish numerous field manuals concerning engineer field tactics and equipment. In 1928, Pillsbury was assigned as Commander of the Philadelphia District, a post he held until 1930. He retired as a U.S. Army Brigadier General in 1937. In 1939, Pillsbury would serve as President of the Society of American Military Engineers.
