Daughter of James Franklin & Lillie Best PEELE BENTON


KINSTON - Nola Benton Parrott died peacefully at home on the morning of October 4 after a period of declining health. Nola was born March 17, 1915, in Wayne County, daughter of the late James Franklin Benton and Lillie Peele Benton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Reid Parrott Sr., brother Rigdon Benton, and sisters Sara Parks, Gladys Smith, Evelyn Willis, Jesse Benton and Mary Griffin. Mrs. Parrott is survived by three sons, Jacob Reid Parrott Jr. and wife Margaret of Rocky Mount, Donald Benton Parrott and wife Cathy of Charlotte, and James Hubert Parrott and wife Cotten of Kinston; her grandchildren, Jake Parrott of Rocky Mount, Pleasants Higgs and husband Chris of Nassau, Bahamas, Laura Parrott of Rocky Mount, Georgia Vick and husband Mike of Wilson, Ben Parrott and wife Elizabeth of Greenville, Benton Parrott of Spanish Fort, Alabama, and Lydia Parrott of Charlotte. In addition, she is survived by nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Nola graduated from Nashville High School in 1933 and after marriage became a homemaker and loving and supportive wife to her husband in a union that lasted 58 years until his death in 1997. She was a lifelong member of Queen Street United Methodist Church. After raising her children Nola assisted her husband in the retail and farming business and enjoyed growing flowers in her garden. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, October 6, 11 a.m. at Queen Street United Methodist Church in Kinston with the Reverend George Speake officiating. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery. The family would like to extend its deepest gratitude to Mrs. Parrott"s caregivers, Elsie Daniels, Brenda Barwick, Christi Anglero, and Kayla Willoughby. These women were loving, caring and supportive and were truly a gift from God. Also, the family extends its gratitude to Home Health and Hospice Care of Kinston. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Queen Street United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 508, Kinston, NC 28502 or the charity of one"s choice. Edwards Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
