Dr. John H. Trimmer, 88, entered the presence of his Lord at 11:50 p.m. Monday, June 20, 2005, at York Lutheran Retirement Village. He was the husband of Pauline (Nissly) Trimmer. Dr. and Mrs. Trimmer observed their 61st wedding anniversary on April 8, 2005. Born June 4, 1917, in York, he was the son of the late Margie (Ketterman) and John H. Trimmer, Sr. Dr. Trimmer was a veteran of the US Army and served as a Captain in the 94th Infantry Division, 319th Medical Battalion in the European Theatre during WWII. He was a 19M35 graduate of William Penn Senior High School; a 1939 graduate of Gettysburg College and a 1943 graduate of Temple Medical School. He served an internship and residency at York Hospital and a residency at Wyoming Community Hospital in Warsaw, NY Dr. Trimmer practiced internal medicine for 50 years. Dr. Trimmer was a former president of the York Chapter of the American Heart Association; a charter member and past president of the Mental Health and Mental Retardation Association; a member of the T.B. Society (now the American Lung Association); former Medical Director at the York Lutheran Home at Kelly Drive; served as Assistant Physician at Pleasant Acres and was a member of the Pennsylvania Medical Society and the York County Medical Society. He was a lifelong member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, York where he taught Sunday School for 60 years; led Bible studies for 30 years; served on the church council and was a delegate to the Lutheran Church of America. He was a member of the Sunday School orchestra and the church choir; a former member of the Rotary Club of York; a member of the Northeast Chapter of Gideons International and a member of the Spring Garden Band. Dr. Trimmer was also a member of York Forest 30 Tall Cedars of Lebanon and the Tall Cedars Band; Zembo Temple; York Lodge 266 F&AM and the Your County Shrine Club. In addition to his wife, Dr. Trimmer is survived by a daughter, Sandra T. Beman of New Port Richey, FL; a son, John H. Trimmer of Hillsborough, CA; six grandchildren; two greatgrandsons; a sister, Janet T. Hazlehurst of Roanoke, TX; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia A. Bast, who died October 13, 2004. Celebration of Life Service Friday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, York, his pastor, Rev. Kevin T. Shively, officiating. Private burial prior to the service in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with graveside military rites by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. [York Daily Record]
