Melva A. Bryant, 78, died at 8:10 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Willie G. Bryant and the late Perry N. Miller. Born May 12, 1927, in Dow City, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Harrison Hoffman and Margaret (Reader) Hoffman Ness. Melva was a 1945 graduate of William Penn Senior High School and a member of Circle of Friends. She loved to play the piano, to draw and cook. Mrs. Bryant is survived by six daughters, Patricia L. Hartman, Carolyn C. Jenkins and Pamela A. Peregoy, all of York, Brenda S. Bucher of Hanover, Debra E. McWilliams of Steelton and Annette E. Chisnell of Lakeland, FL; and a son, Brian K. Bryant of Lithia, FL. She was predeceased by a son, Daryl W. Bryant. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald Hoffman of York; and a sister, Rose Dublin of Fairfield Bay, AR. In addition, she was predeceased by two brothers, Frederick and Jack Hoffman; and two sisters, Marjorie Kroft and Lois Beth Hoffman. Funeral Saturday at Etzweiler Funeral Home and Cremation Services, York, Rev. Dr. E. Gordon Ross, a retired Lutheran pastor, officiating. Burial in Mt. Rose Cemetery. [York Daily Record]
