Ephraim immigrated to the United States in 1846; the 1900 US Census indicates he had not become a naturalized citizen of the United States.

On January 7, 1847 Ephraim married Antoinette Allen in Alburgh, Vermont. Ephraim was working in Swanton at the time of the wedding.

Ephraim was a steamboat captain on Lake Champlain during the summer, and a school teacher in the winter months. In 1889, he moved to Shelburne, Vermont, to Shelburne, Vermont, to be Captain of the yachts owned by William Seward Webb.

An obituary was published in The Burlington Free Press (Burlington, Vermont) on March 3, 1905.

"Proceedings of the Grand Council, Royal and Select Masters of the State of Vermont", 1905: "Captain Ephraim W. Blodgett has sheathed his sword, laid aside his trowel and gone over to the silent majority. Captain Blodgett was an ardent adherent of the principles of Masonry. He was a member of Washington Lodge, No.3, F. & A.M.; Burlington Chapter, No.3, R.A.M; Burlington Council, No. 5, $. & S.M.; Burlington Commandery, No.2, K.T.; also of the several Scottish Rite bodies. At his death he was High Priest of Burlington Chapter."
