Ethel M. Thomas, 99, Spring Garden Township, slipped peacefully into Heaven on Saturday, July 2, 2005, at York Hospital to reunite with her dear mother, Cecelia (Jontz) Metcalf, her beloved husband, Curvin C. "Tommy" Thomas, and a host of lifetime York friends. Born January 14, 1906, in Philadelphia, she had worked as secretary to the commissioners of York County and had owned an antique store for many years at 1821 West Market Street, York. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women's Society; The Garden Club; The Women's Club; and the York County Historical Society, where she served on the auxiliary. Mrs. Thomas is survived by a sister and friend, Hazel M. Willis and her husband, William J. Willis, Jr., of Midwest City, OK; a niece, Cecelia J. Powell of Midwest City, OK; a nephew, William J. Willis, III of Ashland, OH; one great-niece; four great nephews; nine greatgreat-nieces and nephews; and her family of caregivers at Colonial Manor Nursing Center. Mrs. Thomas' Oklahoma family wants to publicly express deep appreciation to her family of caregivers at Colonial Manor Nursing Center, the 5 Main nursing staff, the Pastoral Care Office and the attending Physicians of York Hospital.
