Sarita was born in Athens, TX on February l0, l935. Her dad, M. A. Pennington, was a Southern Baptist minister. He was educated at Howard Payne College and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He pastored churches in Throckmorton, Proctor, Greens Creek, Morgan Mill, Alexander, Gorman, Rose City, and Dimmitt, TX. Her mother was an educator for 35 years and taught first grade; she was a graduate of Howard Payne College and received her Master's degree in Education from TCU.
Sarita attended school near Athens and in Houston, Brownwood, Proctor, and Ft. Worth. She graduated magna cum laude in 1951 at age l6 from R. L. Paschal High School and attended TCU as a BSN student.
She met Frank Weldon McDonald, the love of her life, at Morgan Mill Baptist Church in l950; they were married October 5, l952. Her adult years were primarily spent in Texas (Amarillo, Wichita Falls, and eventually Erath County), but there were four wonderful Alaskan years (l956-l959 and l975-l976). She also enjoyed living on her husband's "home place" (between Morgan Mill and Bluff Dale). Her career was in the paramedical field; she was a Certified Medical Assistant ý Administrative. Her favorite task was medical transcription.
Sarita is preceded in death by her mother and dad; her sister, Ida Marvine "Penny" Finney of Roswell, NM. She and Frank lost their cherished younger daughter, Rachel Lynette McDonald, as a result of an automobile accident near Evant, TX, on March 21, l975. She was l8.
Survivors include her husband of 60+ years; their talented older daughter, Deborah Kay Cochran, of Bluff Dale, TX; and their beloved grandson, John Clayton Ruhd, of Bluff Dale. Also surviving are two nieces, two grand-nieces and one grand-nephew; nine cousins.
Sarita felt privileged to be under the loving care of Dr. Jeffrey Moore. She had a special place in her heart for all her home health providers, who became her close friends. Heidi Craddock and Toni Nelms are especially dear. Meals on Wheels provided excellent nutrition, and the staff members were most attentive.
Her marble stone is at the Glenn Cemetery near Bluff Dale. There will be no graveside service.
