Son of George Bowers and Rhoda Hostetter. He married Lue Story on June 23, 1881 in Tuppers Plains, Ohio. Professor Bowers was the owner and principal of Tuppers Plains Seminary, Meigs County, Ohio. From 1872 until 1886 he provided instruction for many students who went on to lead very distinguished lives as judges, doctors and business owners. While living in Meigs County, Ohio, he was very active in improving and providing education for young people. After his wife died from breast cancer, he moved to Tiffin, Ohio with his 2 children and he was in business there for many years. When he retired, he would spend a few months with each of his children's families. While in Berkshire he needed surgery at Ithaca Hospital. Complications developed and he died at the hospital.
His children: Mabel Story and Morris Eugene.
