Martha Bovelle Fulgham was the 9th of the 10 children born to James M Fulgham and Linda Jane McWhorter in Fayetteville, TN. "Mattie's" mother died when she was only nine. At some time after that she was living in Nashville perhaps with her older sister, Anna Fulgham Lipscomb. No family information exists as to how she met and married William Frank Turk. All we know is that they married in Nashville in 1869 when she was only 14 yrs. of age. She and Frank lived in the Turk family home along with his widowed mother and 2 sisters. Mattie and Frank had two girls, Jennie and Fannie Turk, in Nashville.
Sometime after 1875, the family moved to Ft Worth Tx. It is unknown why they made that move. It was there that another daughter, Libbie Turk, was born. In 1879, in Ft. Worth, Frank Turk died of pneumonia. Shortly thereafter, the young widow moved with her 3 small girls back home to TN. She did not move back to Fayetteville however as her father had since died. She moved to Donelson, TN. and it is again supposed that it was due to her sister living there. It was in Donelson TN., that she met and married James McFarland before June 22, of 1880. They had two children, Lillian Dean McFarland and Albert Oscar McFarland. Mattie later died in childbirth along with their third child. Mattie is laid to rest beside Mr. McFarland here.
Later, Mr. McFarland married again to Miss Ellen Castleman who is also interred at Mt Olivet in the same plot.
