Hattie was Born in Selima, Alabama, on April 12, 1876 to Richard Hamlin Kelly and Jessie Andrews.

She married Fred Howard Stemm. The two lived with Hattie's brother, Charles, at his house on South 12th St. in St. Joseph, MO until he passed away in 1907. The couple had three children: Fred Howard Stemm (St. Joseph, MO 1905-unknown), Jessie Adele Stemm (St. Joseph, MO Dec 3 1909-Oct 17, 1987) and Barbara Lillian Stemm (Kansas City, May 18, 1918-Nov 11, 1991).

She passed away on December 14, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois at 60-years old.
