Walter Barber Dawley, 76, of Plainfield Pike passed away Thursday at Day Kimball Hospital, Putnam surrounded by his family after a losing battle with cancer. He was born December 15, 1936 in Norwich a son of the late George Harvey and Esther Mildred (Barber) Dawley and had lived his entire life in Plainfield. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth (Yonta) Dawley at All Hallows Church, Moosup on October 1, 1955. Mr. Dawley was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving on the aircraft carrier USS Sahangri-la, CVA- 38, later transferring to patrol squadron VP 19, Alameda, CA. After leaving the Navy, he received an electrical apprenticeship at Electric Boat in 1959, later transferring to the electrical design department and after 39 years retired as a Senior Electrical Technical Specialist. Besides his wife he leaves his sons, Scott Dawley and his wife Lorraine, Bruce Dawley and his wife Laura and Keith Dawley. Granddaughters Ashley Holt, Gabrielle Dawley and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four sisters Marion LeClair, Nellie MaJane, Georgetta Staskievitch, Gail Brown and a brother Harry Dawley.
