Ora Dawson Dowdy, age 93, passed from this life comfortably in his sleep at home surrounded by his loving family. Born July 13, 1915 to Richard Manson Dowdy and Nancy Payne Dowdy, in Wayne, Oklahoma he was the youngest of 10 children.

An Army veteran of WWII, serving in the 114th Infantry Regiment 44th Division, in the European Theater of Operations. He worked for PG&E for 29 years as foreman in the gas department, retiring on 07/07/77. Amelia, his wife of 57 years, preceded him in death in 2000.

Dawson was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman and spent much time with his children and grandchildren camping, telling stories, jokes and riddles. He also enjoyed going to the casino, playing cards, and watching college football with his family He read every Zane Gray book published, as well as many other authors. He liked doing crossword puzzles and playing jokes and teasing, making much fun and laughter. He will be missed.

Dawson is survived by Olivia Yarbrough and husband Lloyd of Cohasset, Terry Dowdy and wife Becki of Old Station, Roy Dowdy and wife Robin of Lake Almanor, Reba Bay and husband Dan of Chico, Nancy Pawledge and husband Doug of Chico; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Brusie funeral home has arranged a viewing on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009 from 5 to 8 p.m. Graveside services will be Jan. 7, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Chico Cemetery. Published in Chico Enterprise-Record on January 6, 2009.
