Ryan Thomas Frieler, age 19 of Hastings, died after a courageous battle with cancer on July 2, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 11 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating. Internment will be in the parish cemetery.

Ryan Thomas "Buddy" Frieler was born January 21, 1994 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Steven and Therese (Werz) Frieler. During high school Ryan volunteered helping paraplegic children and worked with animals at the ARC non kill shelter by walking the dogs and petting the cats.

He graduated from Hastings High School in 2012 and was attending Inver Hills Community College. His dream was to become a biomedical researcher to cure cancer.

Ryan was a Boys Scout who achieved the Life Scout level, one under Eagle Scout. He enjoyed planting flowers and loved animals.

Survivors include his parents, Steve and Therese Frieler of Hastings; aunts and uncles, Richard and Sue Frieler of Melrose, Danny and Brenda Frieler of St. Cloud, God-father, Brian Frieler of Orlando, Florida and Timothy D. and Dorene Werz of Cottage Grove; great-uncle, Leo Warren; and great-aunt, Janet Grimes of San Antonio, Texas and many cousins, relatives, and friends.

Ryan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lawrence and Viola Frieler and Alex and Donna Werz.

Serving as casket bearers will be Kyle Frieler, Matthew Frieler, Brent Arceneau, Cole Arceneau, Josh Arceneau, Josh Frieler, Steven Goebel and Kenny Hinnenkamp. Cross bearer will be Danielle Frieler and scripture bearer will be Janet Arceneau.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
