In Memorial.--Died, April 6th, 1888, near Dodge Center, Guthrie county, Iowa, G.R. Nowels, Esq. He was born Sept. 2d, 1829, in Covington, Ind., being the son of David and Elizabeth [Bird] Nowels. Esq. Nowels was married to Emily Weaver Dec. 5th 1848, and they were the parents of 14 children, all living but two--one deceased in infancy, the other when a young man about 22 years of age. Esq. Nowels was highly respected and filled various offices to the satisfaction of his fellow citizens. He was a christian, not only in name but also in life. When about 24 years old he united with the Christain [sic] church, afterward with the Methodist Episcopal, but for years past has been connected with the United Presbyterian church. He endured a lingering illness with Christian patience and avowed his readiness to go when the master called. The respect felt for the diseased was manifest in the large attendance at the funeral. All the family were present but one daughter living in Clinton county. The sympathies of the church and neighbors were freely extended to the bereaved and sorrowing family. Religious service were held at the house and the cemetery by the writer, H.M.H. Fleming, Pastor of Bagley M.E. Church.
