Civil War veteran. Son of Abram (occasionally written Abraham) Akins and Nancy Stevens of New York. Married Jane L. Granger around 1850 in NY. They had nine known children, seven boys, two girls. Lived much of his later life in Queensbury, Warren, NY near the Glens Falls area.

Akins, Henry S.--Age 32 years. Enlisted, August 22, 1862, at Kingsbury, to serve three years; mustered in as private, Co. D, October 6, 1862; mustered out with company, July 19, 1865, at Raleigh, NC.
