Anne Paulsdatter Kantrud (who went by Anna in America), the sixth of seven children born to Paul Amundsen and Rønnaug Halvorsdatter, was born 13 Feb 1885 on the tenant farm (husmannsplass) Kantrud under nedre (lower) Fosse in the Kvikne sub-parish of Nord-Fron Parish, Oppland County, Norway. She was baptized at the Kvikne Church 2 Apr 1885, with baptismal sponsors Johannes Pedersen Brænden, Svend Simonsen Hysjulien, Kari Olsdatter Brænden, Mari Svendsdatter Hysjulien, and Birte Iversdatter Baglien. Anne’s father was born on the tenant farm Baglien under Dalen and her mother on the farm Søre (south) Veslum, both in Kvikne, Nord-Fron. Anne was confirmed 22 Apr 1900 at the Kvikne Church, where she was rated “good +” in her studies. She still lived at Kantrud.

Anne married Peter Iversen Kappelslaaen in Norway (in America, Peter went by Peter Kappel Slaaen). The Kappelslaaen farm is near Søre Veslum in Kvikne. Their first three children were born in Norway. Peter and Anne emigrated in 1909 and had three more children born in North Dakota. Peter died 1 Jan 1918 in ND.

On the 1920 census, “Anna Sloan” is a widow with six children (Iver, Torger, Paul, Ragnar, Alma (Palma?), and Thora), ranging in age from 15 to 3, living in Daneville Township, Divide County, ND, where she is a farmer. The third household above Anna on that census is Fredrik Heide, a widower with four sons. Fredrik was also a native of Kvikne, Nord-Fron. Fredrik and Anna were married in about 1923, and they had four children together (Magnhild, Tillie, Berte, and Timon). Anna died 3 May 1964 in Williams County, ND. She was a resident of Divide County.

Anna’s mitochondrial (maternal) haplogroup should be H1c10 (based on a DNA test of her female-line sixth cousin four times removed).
